Eye Doctor Visit
Owen and Liam both had eye doctor appointments today. First, Liam. He was seen last March to determine if he had strabismus (crossed eyes.) Exam is done twice to be sure. Today was part 2. Everything is fine. She called it psuedostrabismus. I think kind of an optical illusion. He just has some close-set eyes. His birthmom did too, if I recall correctly. Now on to Owen...We have been told all along he will need glasses, just a matter of when. My understanding of his eyes is that most babies with what he had (retinopathy of prematurity) are far-sighted. Owen is slightly near-sighted, once again going against the grain of anything any doctor has said of how things should progress. Each year it has become slightly more near-sighted, with the doctor saying a year ago that he would most likely need glasses by kindergarten, if not this time. Owen must have been paying attention last year. He is still near-sighted, but less, so he has actually improved. The doctor admitted she now has no idea when or if he will need glasses because this is not what usually happens. My mom was with me and we both started laughing because this is exactly what Owen would do during his NICU days and even after at home with food, bottles, oxygen, everything. As soon as a doctor would say "this" would happen, Owen would do "that." True to form, four years after his NICU discharge, he still likes to mix things up. We'll see again in a year.

That is hysterical! Always keeping you on your toes! Good job, Owen! Emma also has that "pseudo" thing...........doc said she had a wide bridged nose (thanks, tom) and that is what makes it appear her eyes are crossed. So funny, it must be common!
Way to go, Owen! May all your rebellion come in this form. (He would have been very cute in glasses, no doubt, but let's leave that distinction for his big brother, Matthew, who looks so good in them!)
