Happy Halloween!

Oh, today was so busy. I had to make some fruit shish-kabobs for Owen's class for his party, so I took them in around 7:30 this morning. I had to go in to class around 9am to help with the festivities. My "smile group" table made Tootsie-Pop ghosts then the kids made a mask and decorated a goodie bag for all the loot at the other tables. After that we played alphabet bingo. Then they ate lunch in the classroom today. They got to ride a bus to the bowling alley for the all school "Halloween Booowling". While in line to head out to the buses, one little girl was so cute. She said, "Mrs. Sullivan, I've never been on a bus before and I'm a little afraid." I assured her it was fun and she did fine. Most of the kids don't take bus but are driven by their parents. Owen was never on a school bus before but it didn't seem to faze him. We had fun bowling for two very long hours. My group barely got through one game in that time. It's kind of not necessary for me to be there for Matthew, which was good because kindergarteners are a little high maintenance in large groups. Steve had off today, so he got to stay home with Liam. Most kids that brought money for snacks didn't know how to or were scared to buy something in the snack line without either me or the teacher there. One boy started crying when he didn't get all the pins down. It is common for him to meltdown when he makes a mistake but I had never seen it until last week when I thought he was having an acute asthma attack, not just freaking out over a piece of paper he cut wrong. I came home with such a headache today.

It took quite a long time to get Matthew ready. His hair was so crunchy! Owen said it wouldn't even break if you threw a big rock at it. I reminded him not to try.

Liam wore the chicken suit Owen used a few years. He wanted to wear the dragon costume, which he kept calling a dinosaur. Once he figured out he got candy for being a chicken he was OK and decided to put on the jacket.

Owen was the dragon this year. He is breathing fire at the camera. I think Matthew was this for the last 2 years. A neighborhood kid commented, "Oh you're a dragon AGAIN?!" So, the costume is well-remembered. Oh well. Owen is going to be the dragon next year too, then it's Liam's turn, so get used to it. We are nothing if not predictable.

We only did our little road, which was actually perfect. Because there are only a handful of kids in here the neighbors are more generous, so more reward with less work. We had a nice little stash, if Liam doesn't get his hands on it, that will last through the weekend, which was the timeline of when I start dumping it out anyway. Matthew liked reading the Jesus comics from our religious neighbors. "Til next year...

I see the earlier comments, but I didn't see Matthew in any of the pictures. Just a very scary Dracula, a colorful dinosaur with Owen's sweet face shining through and a chicken, named Liam, who looked like he was finally talked into the head part of the costume. Where was Matthew? I hope he wasn't devoured by that scary looking Dracula with the very serious face. I wish I could have been there to see you guys!! Audrey
