The Latest Installment of Owen's Ear Issues

It seems that, amazingly, Owen's ears (for once) do not have fluid in them. I saw the tympanogram and the peak of the graph myself. Never before has there been a peak in the box. It has always been a flat line. I really thought we would be scheduling a third set of tubes. A couple of weeks ago Owen was evaluated for speech therapy for kindergarden. All of his problems are due to poor articulation and not a neurological cause, so that was good, but the therapist said that based on his voice quality, she felt he may have vocal cord nodules. Great. Just another thing to be concerned with. I asked Dr. S today about vocal cord issues. He agreed that Owen seems to be leaking air when he speaks, but doesn't want to do anything like scopes at this time. I got the impression he feels it's more a scarring/slight injury from being ventilated so he would wait until maybe age 8 or so before seeing if any treatment is necessary. Since Owen does have a decent voice and isn't aspirating and getting pneumonias, we are completely fine with holding off. As far as his ears, continue with Flonase and recheck in the fall. Yippee!!!
