The weather has been so dry, Steve and I have been watering the field we planted by my parents' house with a 55 gallon drum my dad fitted with a spigot that we load into the lawn tractor wagon and fill with water then drive over to the field and water the squashes and pumpkins and corn. We have it down to a system and it takes less than an hour if Mr. Chipman doesn't come out and chat with us. If he does come out to talk with us, who knows how long it might take. Mr. Chipman has a sprinkler set up for the beans and beets and his potato section, so at least we don't have to do that too.
Finally, yesterday it rained. So we think, "Yay, we don't have to water tonight!" Be careful what you wish for...we had torrential thunderstorms with hail. Yes, HAIL. Now I'm afraid to go survey the damage. I can't imagine how devastating it must have been for Laura Ingalls and her family back in the day. Hopefully the little sprouts will be ok. All that hard work could be wiped out in 5 minutes.
The rain continued through the night and most of today, but after the main thunderstorms yesterday, it's just been a good steady rain, nothing severe. Matthew and Owen were just begging to go out and play in the rain, so we let them this morning. They thought it was just the best thing and begged to go out all afternoon too.
